Amrut Yalagi
Mission:
To endeavor for the development of knowledge
about space and space sciences among the
professionals and general public through
research, public education, popular science and
dialogue
Aims:
The Planetary
Society of Youth (TPSY) aims to:
-
Promote and
inculcate the spirit of inquiry in space,
space exploration and space science like
astronomy and astrophysics among the
interested students and general public.
-
Promote
interaction among the scientists, engineers,
science managers, policy makers, and general
public.
-
Give systematic
direction to scientific enquiry in the pure
and applied sciences with special reference to
space research.
-
Promote
professional / academic debates / discussions
on recent advances in space science.
Youth Focus:
The TPSY intends to
focus on the development of youth talent due to
the obvious reason that space science demands
the spirit of inquiry and adventure apart from
academic competence. The new research programs
pertaining to space exploration, Moon-Mars human
landing, Extra Terrestrial Life, exploitation of
outer space resources, space colonization etc,
demand challenging minds. The youth are
therefore natural choice. They are capable of
taking up to challenge in the realm of unknown
and propose innovative solutions. In this
connection, even if the society is able to
attract a small percent of qualified
engineers/scientists, intelligent and
enthusiastic student it would result in the
creation of a sizable pool of talent in space
sciences, which may well determine the future of
maintained on this planet.
Objectives:
In
order to fulfill the mission statement, the TPSY
has the following objectives
-
To create awareness
about astronomy, astrophysics, space, space
exploration
and space technology
among the school children, college goers and
general public.
-
To organize
seminars, conferences, workshops and other
academic/popular science activities with
special reference to space sciences.
-
To facilitate
publication of books/e-magazines/leaflets on
the space sciences.
-
To establish and
run a science centre to popularize space
sciences among the general public and act as a
meeting point for the concerned professionals.
-
To arrange weekly
night sky watching through telescope.
-
To disseminate
knowledge of space sciences in rural and
suburban schools/colleges
by
way of organizing visiting lectures/talks.
-
To conduct weekly
awareness classes for the benefit of student
and faculty from other disciplines and general
public about space science.
-
To expand the
every horizon of people involved in this
activity for the eternity of humanity on the
earth.
